Date notice | Townhall meeting at Kiel City Hall: What's next for Europe and the USA?

March 5 @ 18:00 - 21:00 UTC+0

Alongside European integration, the transatlantic partnership is the most important pillar of German foreign policy. It is based on traditionally close cultural, social, political and economic ties - but also on common interests in promoting peace, democracy and human rights. With Donald Trump's inauguration, transatlantic relations are facing new challenges in the areas of security, trade and climate protection.

What does the future of transatlantic relations look like? What challenges will the new German government have to face? And what does this mean for Kiel? These topics will be the focus of a town hall meeting on Wednesday, March 5, at 6 p.m. in the council chamber of Kiel City Hall, Fleethörn 9. The question of what role international city partnerships - such as the one between Kiel and San Francisco - can play in the current situation will also be discussed.

After a welcoming address by Lord Mayor Ulf Kämpfer, Nils Heller from the Federal Foreign Office will give a presentation on the history, present and future of transatlantic relations. Questions from the audience will then be possible. The event will conclude with drinks and refreshments.

Anyone interested in attending the event is requested to register by February 27 by e-mail to Staedtepartnerschaften@kiel.de to register. Further information on the program is available online at www.kiel.de/international.

The so-called Townhall Meetings are an event organized by the Federal Foreign Office to give citizens an insight into international relations and the work of the Federal Government.
