Cultural exchange with the SF Public Library

Michael Lambert and Maureen Singleton presented the many ways in which the San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) acts as a cultural and meeting place for the community during a professional exchange with the Kiel Public Library in Kiel in November 2023. Since then, we have already been able to arrange joint projects and visits to the SFPL by groups from Kiel.

In October, we were there ourselves and Maureen and her colleague Marciel Gamino took us on a tour. The joy of working for this house was palpable through and through and very infectious.

Changing themed rooms, an art gallery and many live events are a starting point for us for a transatlantic exchange between artists and as an impetus for joint projects. Our conversation also focused directly on a concrete project idea in the field of music and cultural exchange for 2025, which we had brought with us from one of our members in Kiel. Maureen was able to help us directly and put us in touch with Kelly Varion, Culture & Arts Development Manager at the City of San Francisco.
