The Bay Areas aims to connect people, organizations and networks in the San Francisco, Kiel and Schleswig-Holstein regions. The development of new partnerships and contacts is to be promoted by the association and existing partnerships and contacts are to be enriched and made accessible to other association members. The exchange covers such diverse areas as culture, science, business, education, politics and sport.
Digital Challenge
Innovate my Business Model - In cooperation with the state's universities, students develop innovative digital business models for participating companies in just one week. The joint project with Mittelstand Digital-Zentrum Schleswig-Holstein promotes cooperation between business and science, offers companies fresh ideas and impetus as well as the opportunity to get to know young talent. Students gain practical experience and make contacts with potential employers.
Lighthouse Swim
This open water swimming event was initiated by citizens from Kiel and San Francisco and takes place annually in both Kiel and San Francisco. Swimmers from both regions swim either 4 or 14 kilometers through the Kiel Fjord for marine conservation. A supporting program on the Kiellinie with live broadcasts, entertainment and action stands from marine conservation organizations makes the event accessible to the general public.
High-flyer competition
The "Überflieger" is a state-wide start-up competition organized jointly by the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Economic Affairs and the three associations Marketingclub SH, StartUp SH and TheBayAreas. The aim is to offer start-ups a stage and open up new networks with important contacts both in Schleswig-Holstein and in San Francisco. The three winners of the competition will fly to the start-up mecca of Silicon Valley for a week and benefit from the local mindset, big-picture thinking and our local network.
Reverse pitch
In this joint format of Waterkant and The Bay Areas, we turn the tables: companies pitch their business challenge in front of an audience of selected start-ups and people interested in founding a company and benefit from their innovative knowledge. The aim: match-making and joint solution development for the companies as well as networking between start-ups and SMEs.
