Sparkling business ideas from start-ups from the true north are once again being sought: The three associations The Bay Areas, the Marketing Club Schleswig-Holstein and StartUp SH together with the state government, have given the go-ahead for the third nationwide start-up competition "Überflieger".
Young entrepreneurs based in the state and founded between January 2017 and the end of March 2020 are now invited to take part. According to State Secretary for Economics and Technology Dr. Thilo Rohlfs, the three winning teams can look forward to trips to Silicon Valley and San Francisco later this year.
How the "StartUp SH e.V." chairwoman Dr. Anke Rasmus said, the four organizers are combining the tried and tested with the new this year: for the first time, there will be a pre-final with all admitted applicants in the incubator of the "Zentrum für Entrepreneurship" (ZfE) at Kiel University on April 23.
San Francisco is deeply enriched by our sister cities. The cultural, social and economic relationships between our city and our sister cities, which each of you has developed and continues to nurture, are even more important in these challenging times.
- Dr. Thilo Rohlfs, State Secretary for Economics and Technology
"Here, everyone will have the opportunity to present themselves in a short presentation. With this innovation, we want to give everyone the chance to talk to each other - with sponsors and start-up experts," says Rasmus. The six best teams will then go through to the final.

At the final on May 7 in Kiel, a total of six founders will have to assert themselves in front of a jury, which will then select the three winning teams that evening. "Our concept convinces old and new sponsors alike. This means we can once again offer start-ups the opportunity to travel to the land of unlimited possibilities," says Börrje Schneider from Marketing Club Schleswig-Holstein.
And Axel Schulz from "The Bay Areas" association adds: "Looking across borders from Schleswig-Holstein and using our partnership with San Francisco to our advantage in the startup mecca of the Bay Areas. USA for our start-ups is a great opportunity. Strong partners are working together here and we are once again looking forward to nationwide participation."
In addition to the three trips to San Francisco and Silicon Valley (October 18 to 25), there will also be another special prize this year: A wildcard for the StartUp-Camp Schleswig-Holstein organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (June 8-13 at the University of Applied Sciences Wedel).
Applications with a letter of motivation and pitch deck can be submitted from now until March 31 at the latest to wettbewerb@startupsh.de.
