Science in dialog - Siences comes to town

An inspiring evening at the City of Kiel's science reception - the program presentation for „Science Comes To Town” also made it clear what power cross-city and cross-state projects can have.

Together, the state capital of Kiel, Brest and Split are demonstrating for an entire year that science, research and innovation are made by people for people. A 365-day program with more than 1,000 events and over 70 partners:
🧭 Bringing research to the heart of cities
🔬 Strengthening trust in science
💬 Bringing around 25 million citizens into conversation with researchers
🌱 show that innovation ecosystems are created through research in our regions

We are very pleased that an event with Kiel's twin city San Francisco will also take place in this context. Another premiere! 🗓️ July 2 and 3, 2026

Prof. Carsten Schultz and his team are bringing the conference series of the Kiel Institute for Responsible Innovation (KIRI) and the Responsible Innovation and Entrepreneurship (RI&E) Initiative of San Francisco State University to Kiel for the first time. The format deepens the academic and social exchange and provides new impulses for responsible innovation processes.

This is also an interesting topic for Oliver Schramm. As the former German Consul General in San Francisco, he has experienced and observed the development and influence of technology and transfer and is currently contributing his expertise to the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) in Hamburg.

Together with Prof. Ralph Schneider, Vice President of Kiel University, we discussed how Schleswig-Holstein can be positioned more strongly as a research and innovation location for international scientists and how important close cooperation with industry is in this context.

We are looking forward to an exciting year!
