Swimmers from Kiel and San Francisco made a start and formulated a vision to fill the city partnership between Kiel and San Francisco with content and encourage joint action. The goals are

• Send a signal for the protection of the oceans.
• An exchange between the population groups in Kiel and San Francisco.
• A sporting challenge for all athletes.

What is it all about?

In this annual event, open water swimmers will swim either 4 km or 14 km through the Baltic Sea, past the lighthouses and into the inner Kiel Fjord. This provides a platform for organizations that support the protection of the sea. Pushing sporting boundaries and raising awareness is the motto of the swimmers, who also act as ambassadors for the sea with their efforts.
