Kiel Dragons in San Francisco

We want to fill the new town twinning with life. I think it's wonderful when people from different nations come together.

The Kiel Dragons took part in the International Dragon Boat Festival in San Francisco with a 20-strong mixed team.

In addition to athletes from Kiel, there were also some from Neumünster and Preetz on the team. The youngest team member was just 18 years old and the oldest 65. Seven women were part of the team. The American distance of the dragon boat races is 500 meters, twice as long as the German distance, which was quite a challenge for the team. So they had been training since May.

Bernd Lensch, the idea generator and initiator of this project, has been dreaming of a dragon boat race with all of Kiel's twin cities for years and is now one step closer to fulfillment.
