To that end,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400;\">For many of our projects, we work together with partners and sponsors.<\/span><\/p><p><strong>Our Highlights of 2025\u2014just a few examples of many great moments:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><strong>Staying in Touch Across the Atlantic:<\/strong> Staying in touch with people who share our values is especially important to us, particularly in today\u2019s world. In partnership with the Schleswig-Holstein Society for American Studies and the Transatlantic Student Initiative, we have done just that with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DMKRa7VoDof\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\">\u201eKiel Meets the U.S. \u2013 Friendship Picnic\u201c<\/a> Celebrated in early July as well as at the Thanksgiving reception under the theme <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DRzY3nyjAP0\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\">\u201eBuilding Transatlantic Bridges\u201c<\/a>, at which Scott Woodard, the new U.S. Consul General for Northern Germany, also delivered a welcoming address.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li><strong>Visitors from San Francisco in Kiel:<\/strong><ul><li>In March, Dr. Kai Westerwelle of the German American Business Association (GABA) delivered a fast-paced keynote address outlining the Trump administration\u2019s goals for the U.S. domestic market, the role that international economic relations play in this context, and the diversity of perspectives within a country as large as the United States. (<a href=\"https:\/\/the-bay-areas.de\/en\/news\/the-american-u-turn-dr-kai-westerwelle\/\">more<\/a>)<\/li><li>In June, Renata Kiefer and James Bridgeman from our sister organization, the San Francisco\u2013Kiel Sister City Committee, as well as Maureen Singleton and Michelle Jeffers from the San Francisco Public Library, took part in the International Cities Forum during Kiel Week. (<a href=\"https:\/\/the-bay-areas.de\/en\/news\/delegation-from-san-francisco-visits-kiel\/\">more<\/a>) For example, a discussion on the further development of cultural institutions led to the idea for a pilot project offering low-threshold social counseling at the Kiel Central Library, which launched in November and is supported by the \u201e\u00dcbermorgen \u2013 New Models for Cultural Institutions\u201c funding program of the Federal Cultural Foundation. (<a href=\"https:\/\/the-bay-areas.de\/en\/news\/new-paths-to-social-participation-inspired-by-san-francisco\/\">more<\/a>)<\/li><li>The Lighthouse Swim, held in early July, once again featured American participants. This time, Brent Butler represented the South End Rowing Club in Kiel. (<a href=\"https:\/\/the-bay-areas.de\/en\/news\/lighthouse-swim-2025\/\">more<\/a>)<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Learning from one another and being open to innovation:<\/strong> These core principles also shape the Digital Challenge. We are very pleased that this year we were able to welcome Minister of Digitalization Dirk Schr\u00f6dter as our new patron and that, with AI.SH and DiWiSH, two new partners, to work with the state\u2019s universities to further develop this initiative toward digital and AI-based solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises. (<a href=\"https:\/\/the-bay-areas.de\/en\/projects\/digital-challenge\/\">more<\/a>)<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>What 2026 Will Bring<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><strong>Networking Event \u201eDigital Challenge \u2013 New Horizons\u201c<\/strong> On March 24, 2026: That evening, we\u2019ll take a look at the ideas that have been implemented and the experiences of the participating companies, and discuss them.<\/li><li><strong>Joint conference series held in Kiel for the first time:<\/strong> In early July, Prof. Carsten Schultz and his team from Kiel University (CAU) will bring the joint conference series of the Responsible Innovation and Entrepreneurship (RI&amp;E) Initiative\u2014a collaboration between San Francisco State University and the Kiel Institute for Responsible Innovation (KIRI)\u2014to Kiel.
